Coonamble Shire is one of the largest in area in NSW, covering 10,000 square kilometres. Sweeping plains, glorious sunsets, the Warrumbungle National Park, Pilliga State Forest and the Macquarie Marshes feature in our Shire.
Coonamble is renowned for it's ability to grow quality feed all year round. It is often the beneficiary of southern winter fronts which are often complemented with an overlap of the northern summer fronts. These combine to give a generous annual rainfall in the vicinity of 21 inches.
Coonamble has the capacity to produce both winter and summer crops, and mostly associated with its sheep, lamb, wool and beef production. For instance, in 2016 Coonamble was the largest receival site of all GrainCorp's NSW sites, taking in 400,000 tonnes alone. This figure doesn't include the grain delivered to AgriGrain, the Coonamble Feedlot, stored on farm or sold to other nearby packers. Best estimates of total grain production is close to 800,000 tonnes, further highlighting its productive capacity.
Coonamble is well known for it's special events hosted throughout the year with the Coonamble Rodeo and Campdraft being held over the June Long Weekend each year. This event is renowned to be the largest combined Rodeo and Campdraft in the southern hemisphere and a great event year in year out. Other occasions include Horse racing, Greyhound Carnival's and the Annual show.
